President Obama has been courting Central Asias post-Soviet dictators in an attempt to drum up support in the region for his mission in Afghanistan. In the last three months, Obama has been cutting deals with Presidents Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan and Kurmanbek Bakiyev of Kyrgyzstan. Karimov has been accused by a former British ambassador of ordering two opponents boiled alive. Human Rights Watch says 6000 people are currently incarcerated in Uzbekistan for so-called non-violent religious offenses. Journalists and activists continue to be imprisoned.
